Our Story

This student film didn’t begin as a “school project,” but as a moment that changed the course of everything. While visiting a bookstore, Marek Totusek and Hailey Moore, happened to come across the novel I Will Die In Foreign Land. The story hit them so deeply that they felt compelled to reach out directly to the author. First and foremost to express, sincerely, how strongly the book had affected them, and also to respectfully ask whether there might be any possibility of adapting it into a student film.

The author replied that the screen rights had already been acquired by a studio led by Jennifer Morrison. Even so, she chose to help and contacted the rights holders to ask whether there could be an option for a student adaptation. A few days later, news arrived that they never expected. Jennifer Morrison, together with her legal team, reached out personally to say she wanted to grant the rights for their student adaptation and to support the film’s journey through festivals.

In that moment, it became clear that this wasn’t just an idea, but an extraordinary opportunity one that might never come again. That is why they are committing to it fully. With respect for the original work, with humility toward the environment in which they plan to film, and with the ambition to create a film that will be a worthy adaptation of the book.

“The most exciting part is the collaboration.”
